FAQsCan I get custom color? Yes! The majority of Lark rugs are custom. The samples and rugs shown on the website are just to give you suggestions and a starting point for your own rug. Of course, often what is shown is just right and we can certainly duplicate that. What is the process of going with custom color for a Lark rug? Send Lark samples of paint chips, fabrics, yarn poms, etc. in the colors you are working with and we will discuss what you want the rug to look like. Shown is an example of fabrics, and paint chips and the samples produced from them.
What are the size restrictions? There are no restrictions on size or shape of the High Relief Lark rugs. Flatwoven Lark rugs can be a maximum of 12’ wide. Wider rugs require seaming. No restrictions on the length. A seam can be part of the design or minimized by placing under furniture.
Can I have a round or unique shaped rug? Yes, High Relief rugs have no size or shape restrictions. Flatwoven rugs are woven square and can be cut to any shape. A suitable binding or fringe must be applied to the cut edges. This may be one of the Lark Finishing options or by your own carpet installer.
How are Lark rugs made? The High Relief rugs are a 2-part constuction. First all the materials are woven like a gigantic chenille yarn, cut in strips and the sewn onto a canvas backing. They are very durable with this double construction technique The Flatwoven rugs are made on state of the art handlooms specifically designed for rug weaving. They vary in width from 4’ to 12’ wide.
Where do you get your materials and what are they made of? Our warp (the vertical threads on a loom) is a mix of 3 cotton yarns. We use 3 yarns to get a depth of color and for strength of the rug. The weft yarns are primarily New Zealand rug wool and a variety of cotton and silk like yarns. Often we will add some novelty yarns to create a certain effect and give individuality to the rugs. The fabrics Lark use are new. Primarily we use home furnishings fabrics accented with fashion fabrics when color or texture dictates that.
Are Lark rugs "eco friendly or green"? Yes! We Support our local economy by supporting local trained artisans and manufacturing in the United States. Lark is committed to a high quality of life standard by: using materials to the best of their advantage i.e. good design efficient manufacturing processes, minimal waste, low energy consumption.
